INTERNATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORK

Currently, VNPT has built a stable and advanced international telecommunication infrastructure, used many new safe and effective transferring methods like submarine optical cables, terrestrial optical cables and satellites, allowing direct connections to over 240 nations, economic and financial centers all over the world.

VNPT currently manages the landing stations of the two important, world-class advanced submarine optical cable links, including SMW-3 and AAG. The SMW-3 system was put into operation in September 1999, connecting Vietnam with nearly 30 countries in both Asia and Europe. Out of the 80 Gbps of its designed capacity, VNPT uses up to 57 Gbps. Meanwhile, AAG (Asia America Gateway) is the submarine optical cable link with a 20.000 km length and the total capacity of 500 Gbps, connecting directly the East Asia region to the US, passing through Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam (the landfall station in Ba Ria – Vung Tau), Brunei, Hong Kong, Philippines and the United States. VNPT is currently using 106 Gbps on this optical cable link.
It is expected that in 2012, VNPT will increase the exploited capacity on AAG system for 245 Gbps more, and from now to 2015, VNPT will build a new international submarine optical cable link.

Moreover, VNPT also directly build terrestrial optical cables connecting directly to 3 neighbor countries: Laos (capacity of 10 Gbps), Cambodia (capacity of 17.5 Gbps) and China (capacity of 65 Gbps).
The satellite system composed of the two satellites Vinasat-1 and Vinasat-2 helps VNPT to enhance connectivity to neighbor countries and other countries in the South East region.

NATIONAL BACKBONE NETWORK
VNPT’s national backbone network includes the North-South optical cable network with the current capacity reaching 360 Gbps, the optical cable along the 1A national route and Ho Chi Minh road. The network uses ring topology model, ensuring that connectivity will be clear and secure in any circumstances.

It is expected that in the coming time, VNPT will expand the capacity of the current North-South network to over 600 Gbps and build another new North-South network with a capacity of around 400 Gbps.

The ring network systems in the North, North East and South have the total capacity reaching 13,000 Gbps. Together with Metro-link networks in 4 centers (Ha Noi, HCM City, Da Nang, Can Tho) and VNPT’s Toll, NGN call center system, they create the strongest inter-provincial transmission network in Vietnam.

BROADBAND NETWORK
To get ahead of technology and market changes, VNPT had introduced the broadband Internet service ADSL to consumers in 2003. Currently millions of nation-wide customers are using VNPT’s services.
VNPT is currently the ISP that holds 2/3 market share in terms of Internet subscribers. The total capacity of international Internet exceeds 156 Gbps and is being expanded even further. POP Internet provides xDSL service with a speed of up to 15 Mbps in all 63/63 provinces and cities.
In addition to the ADSL network, the Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network has been implemented and is providing services in 63 provinces and cities. FTTH not only can provide Internet connection with the bandwidth from 6 - 100 Mbps but also can meet with the demands for value-added services that need much bandwidth, such as: IPTV, online training, multi-media video conferences,…

VINASAT SATELLITE SYSTEM
In April 2008, VNPT launched the first satellite of Vietnam – Vinasat-1 successfully into orbit at 132oE, 35,768 km away from the earth, enhancing the national image of Vietnam and her Telecommunications – IT sector in the context of global economic integration. With the successful launch, Vietnam has become the 93th nation in the world, and the 6th nation in the South East Asia region that sends satellite into orbit.

Vinasat-1 has officially offered services since June 2008. With 20 transponders (12 Ku band transponders and 8 C band transponders), Vinasat-1 covers all the country and several nearby countries (Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and a part of Myanmar), providing various services: private leased line for enterprises, SNG (Satellite News Gathering), distance training, DTH television, video conference, mobile private leased line, data transmission for banks, connectivity for Internet service providers, phone services in remote areas,… Currently, nearly all of Vinasat-1’s capacity has been used up.

With the success gained from the investment and operation of Vinasat-1, the Government continues to place their trust in VNPT and assign the group the important responsibility of launching Vietnam’s second satellite. Vinasat-2 has 24 Ku band transponders, covering the whole South East Asia region and several nearby countries. On May 16th 2012, Vinasat-2 was launched successfully into orbit at 131.8oE.

Together with Vinasat-1, Vinasat-2 enhances capacity backup, reduces risks and protects the security of the national telecommunication network system.

MOBILE NETWORK
With nearly 50,000 base transceiver stations (both 2G and 3G) that cover 63/63 provinces and cities all over Vietnam, VNPT’s mobile networks (VinaPhone and MobiFone) are currently serving 80 million subscribers and helping customers to have anytime and anywhere connectivity.

Maintaining the vanguard role in the fields of telecommunications, in October 2009, VNPT continued to be the first business to bring advanced 3G mobile services to Vietnamese consumers. To this moment, VNPT’s 3G network has nationwide coverage, providing data services with the high speed reaching 21 Mbps.
VNPT is also the first business to deploy 4G-LTE trial network and collaborate to produce supportive equipment in order to shorten the time needed to bring high-speed broadband services to Vietnamese consumers.

Beside domestic mobile services, VNPT provides roaming services to more than 200 mobile service providers from about 100 nations, enabling subscribers in VNPT network to continue using the services as they travel across the world.

POSTAL NETWORK  INTERNATIONAL MAIL ROUTE NETWORK
VNPT’s international mail route network consists of 43 international airway routes taking off from HCM city and 43 ones taking off from Ha Noi, 3 inland routes (to China and Cambodia) and one waterway
route (Ho Chi Minh city – Singapore).

DOMESTIC MAIL ROUTE NETWORK
VNPT’s domestic mail route network consists of 20 domestic airway routes, 53 inland routes using specialized vehicles and a Ha Noi – HCM city railway (TN1, TN2) mail route with the frequency of one trip per day.

POST OFFICE AND SERVICE POINT NETWORK
VNPT’s post office and service point network spreads to all corners of the country, consisting of more than 14,300 service points, in which there are more than 2,500 post offices and more than 8,000 communal cultural post offices. The network has a radius of 2.52 km per service point and can serve 6,528 customers per service point, achieving the best average ratio compared to other countries in the region.
