Bac Giang P&T
Telecommunications and information technologies play an increasingly substantial role in infrastructure formulation, thus facilitating social and economic development. Being aware of this, right at the inception, Bac Giang P&T focused on expanding production and business activities, including upgrading the telecommunications network. An array of switching and transmission equipment with modern switching systems have been installed in provincial rural and remote areas.
Bac Giang P&T now consists of state-of-the-art exchanges with 26,452 lines (HOST1 TDX-1B, HOST2-E10), 15 independent exchanges and 31 telecommunications stations. The transmission system has been updated with 214km of provincial internal underground optic cable and 54 microwave connections of various kinds. Modern telecommunications services such as cardphones, mobile phones, paging and the Internet were brought to life in different districts and towns. New services such as post savings, postal consignment and express mail services have been implemented in districts and towns. Special attention has been attached to the distribution of mails and newspapers.
Despite being a highland province fraught with hills and numerous streams, by the end of December the province had 20,712 telephone subscribers, with a teledensity of 1.4/100 residents, distributed over 5.2 million copies of newspapers and magazines, built 47 post bureaus, 162 village post office and cultural places, and many agents and kiosks. With a view to improving service quality and expanding the market, within the past three years Bac Giang P&T arranged short-term and refresher courses for over 1,700 of its employees and sent many to additional courses both at home and abroad.
In the years to come, Bac Giang P&T plans to continue modernizing its posts and telecommunications services, applying achievements in science and technology into production and business practice, and further improving staff qualifications to be ready for competition and integration in the new millennium./.
