Dong Nai P&T
Dong Nai P&T inherited extremely poor infrastructure - just the Bien Hoa Post Office and a 200-digit transmission station - with liberation in 1975.
The mail and newspapers were dispatched daily mostly aboard co-operative vehicles and it took two, and sometimes four days, to reach rural Dong Nai while telecommunications services were limited in both in range and quality.
But installation of ten modern switching systems capable of carrying 2,600 lines in late 1992, heralded a major breakthrough.
Since then, an additional 76 post offices, and 48 village post office and cultural places have been built and 40 post agents appointed. The telecommunications network has 47 switching systems capable of carrying 75,000 lines and the province has an average teledensity of 4.6 telephones/100 residents. Mobile phone, paging, the Internet and express mail services are also available.
Plans to 2010 include building another 160 post offices; extending the mobile phone coverage to the entire province and using cable to update internal communications. The province's Internet subscribers are expected to increase from a present 1,080 to 5,500 in 2010.
Investment from a variety of sources is being sought to meet these targets and serve the process of industrialization and modernization./.
