Tuyen Quang P&T
With the splitting of Ha Tuyen Province into the two provinces of Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang, Ha Tuyen P&T was then transferred into Tuyen Quang P&T. The provincial posts and telecommunications network had humble beginnings, consisting of the relatively small 20 post bureaus, an automatic electro-mechanical switchboard with 600 lines, 24 liaison channels, 570 telephones, bringing in revenues of approximately VND800 million.
After 10 years of construction and development during two accelerated stages of development, Tuyen Quang P&T now consists of 25 post bureaus, 12 kiosks and 142 agents and 70 village post office and cultural places, up nine times over 1991. About 60 percent of provincial communes are now served by decent post bureaus and village post office and cultural places. By October 1999, all provincial communes, wards and towns could receive newspapers and magazines within a day.
By 1995, all districts and towns had been merged into national and international networks. The province now operates 19 switching systems with a handling capacity of over 11,200 lines, up by 11 times over 1991. The number of telephones had reached 8,200 by the end of 2000 averaging 1.15/100 residents, up 14 fold over 1991. By 2000, about 78 percent of provincial communes, wards and towns had telephone lines, and 100 percent of communes in the province's two districts were served by telephones. Tuyen Quang P&T opened a wide rang of new services such as general inquiry service 108, teleflorist, nation-wide paging service, mobile phone, card phone, post savings, express money transfer and others with total revenues increasing by 21 times over 1991.
Concerning development orientations for 2005 and 2010, Tuyen Quang &T plan is to continue modernizing its postal and telecommunications services, extending the telephone system to rural and remote areas, improving staff qualifications, comprehensively preparing for competition and integration in early years of the 21st century.
