2009 is the year that the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) achieved the continuous impressed growths. VNPT listed its 10 outstanding events in 2009 as follows:

1. President grants Labor Hero  Award to VNPT

As of December 22, Vietnamese President signed the Decision number 2056/QD-CTN of Hero Labor Award granted to VNPT for the special achievements in the period of 1998-2008, making great contributions to national defense and building socialism.

2. VNPT`s growth rate hits 30% despite the economic downturn

In 2009, VNPT completed on schedule, estimated revenue is VND 78,000 billion, an increase of 30% over 2008; contributing VND 8,100 billion to the national budget, increasing 18% as compared with 2008.  This result made great contribution to control the downturn and promote the recover of the economy.

3. Completing Data transmission network for the government agencies.

In March 2009, VNPT established the first online meeting between the government and the People`s Committees in 63 cities and provinces, marked the active renovation in bringing telecoms and IT applications to the Government`s operation, and showing VNPT`s ability in this project. The fiber cable system was built nationwide with the high speed of 1,000 Mbps.

4. VNPT is the pioneer in providing 3G services.

In October 12, 2009, VinaPhone under VNPT becomes the first operator providing 3G services in Vietnam. And as of December 15, MobiFone, also under VNPT launched its 3G network. The provided services includes Mobile Internet, Mobile Broadband, Video Call, Mobile Camera, Mobile TV…, which officially listed Vietnam in the global 3G map.

5. Vietnam got the highest prize in international letter-writing competition

A 7th grade student from the central city of Danang, Nguyen Dac Xuan Thao, won second prize at the 38th international letter-writing competition launched by the Universal Postal Union (UPU). It was the highest prize ever awarded to a Vietnamese student during 20 years` history Vietnam participated in the competition.

6. VinaPhone joins Conexus – the biggest mobile union in Asia

As of November 17, 2009, VinaPhone officially joint the biggest mobile union in Asia Conexus, marked the new development of Vietnam telecom market in general and Vinaphone in particular.

With 27 million subscribers, VinaPhone is one of the biggest mobile networks in Asia – Pacific. VinaPhone was the first operator launching 3G services in Vietnam, which is one of important conditions for joining Conexus.

7. Connection to Asia America Gateway (AAG) system

In November 2009, VNPT officially opened the connection to the international undersea fiber cable system AAG from Southern Asia to America which is 20,000 km long. With the capacity of 500 Gbps, AAG is the third international gateway connecting Vietnam and the world, after T-V-H and Semewe 3. The opening of this system show the VNPT`s strong ability of backbone network, as well as comprehensive transmission system from satellite to international fiber cable..

8. VNPT Week to be held for the first time

VNPT Week was cordinated by VNPT`s members nationwide. This was a chance for VNPT to promote activities for the community development, and express its thanks to VNPT loyalty clients. On the other hands, through VNPT Week, VNPT also desires to be more professional in customer care services. From now on, this event will be held annually.

9. Making great contribution to welfare programs

 For the past 10 years, VNPT has paid over VND 435 billion for welfare programs. Especially, from 2009, VNPT started the 10 - year Program worth of VND 200 billion for Sin Ho and Muong Te districts (Lai Chau Province). Accordingly, VNPT will invest VND 200 billion in building Posts, Telecoms and IT infrastructure, human resource training , clearing the temporary houses for the poor, health and medical check for local residents, building new houses for teachers, giving allowance for the pupils of Mang ethnic.

10. VNPT moves to new office building

From August 1, 2009, VNPT moved to new office building at 57 Huynh Thuc Khang, Hanoi. The building has 27 floors with the area of 40,000 m2. This is the convenient condition for the sustainable development of the group in future./.
