The VIFOTEC awards were presented to projects in various fields including mechanics, automation, environmental protection and the use of natural resources, bio-technologies, telecommunications and IT, plus energy saving, and the use of new energy sources. This year, thirty-five projects were honoured at the awards ceremony.

The Vietnam Fund for Supporting Scientific and Technological Creations (VIFOTEC) was established in 1993 by Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Association (VUSTA), Vietnam Labour Union (VLU), Ho Chi Minh Youth Union and Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST).
